Depp deposition

To start this off, I am linking a perfect example of what I was saying about Amber Heard’s video deposition insofar as body language. In the tweet linked here, credited to tralalalobum, you see Johnny and Amber both describing the bottle throwing incident. The difference between their hand motions shows who really threw the bottle. Amber subconsciously mimes throwing it, while Johnny subconsciously mimes having it thrown past his head. In light of this, it’s easy to tell where the truth is!

From here however I will continue to break down Johnny’s deposition only, as I did with Amber’s. I want to use his as means to show a stark contrast in truth telling, where the actual truth teller does not have to think, stammer, or stagger over the facts.

I do however want to make a distinction between rehearsing a lie and being able to consistently tell the truth. There is a difference, and it is easy to see once you know what to look for. When someone has carefully constructed a lie and continues to tell it and retell it, the problem lies in the fact that they only know what they have rehearsed and cannot easily expound or elaborate. Usually when asked to elaborate further or when I asked a foul question pertaining to what they just stated, the person will be caught up short and have to take a while to regroup and think of something possible. You can practically hear the record scratch.

Someone who is telling the truth will consistently say the same things, but in a variety of ways and bringing up new details about the fact with each repetition. This is why police interrogations will go over the facts again and again, to see if someone will trip up and contradict themselves as Amber Heard does, or stay consistent and continue to give more information as Johnny does.

It was initially the Daily Mail who broke the story, yet his deposition was uploaded by several YouTube accounts (the clip linked here by lola amis).

It’s a very short clip, where he only outlines the incident of her severing his finger, but he stays consistent and coherent throughout describing not only where he was, what he was doing, and her actions as well. He does not jump around or interrupt himself while he’s describing what he went through, but instead tells a narrative story from start to finish, only interjecting with finer points and details.

His body language as well is straightforward. He’s openly engaging, leaning forward and his demeanor is not defensive at all. I included the picture above, courtesy of the Daily Mail, as an example that in body language, showing one’s palms is a symbol of trust and openness.

The exception would be someone showing their hands out, palms up. That is an entreaty for someone to believe them and can be a sign of deception. It’s like someone asking “do you believe me?” In most cases, anyone who is trying to pressure you into belief is telling you a lie. A truth teller has no need to be defensive, because the truth speaks for itself and is incontrovertible.

It is also worthy to note that Depp is so coherent about details of the event. Amber Heard previously asserted that he was drunk and drugged over the course of that period, made references to cocaine being everywhere, and said that when he was drunk or on drugs he would black out and not know what was going on or what had transpired. For someone who was supposed to be so out of it, he has a very good recollection, and the narrative and details he outlines are consistent with the evidence as opposed to hers.

Ironically enough I would absolutely love for Amber Heard to take part in what she challenged Johnny to do. I want to see her medical files, I want her to submit to a mental evaluation by a court appointed medical professional, I want her to submit to random drug testing, and I want her to sit for a polygraph.

As the trials approach, we will see if any of that actually takes place.
